Fewer toys. The right ones. At the right moment.

From the start, Nicole and Giovanni had fewer toys than most of their friends — and that was on purpose. Nicole had read enough, and watched Giovanni closely enough, to believe that a small shelf of the right toys at the right stage beats a pile of everything. The right thing at the right moment holds a child's attention longer and lets them actually play.

And it worked. With fewer toys to choose from, Giovanni played more deeply with what he had. He looked after his things, kept them organized, and was genuinely appreciative of something new when it came into the house. The mess was manageable. The play was better.

The catch was the stages. Kids move through them fast. A toy that was perfect last month is ignored today, and the next thing that'll light him up costs real money — bought new, used for a few weeks, then sitting there taking up space. Nicole wanted to pass what Giovanni had outgrown to another family, and find the right next thing for him, without buying everything new.

When she moved to Barcelona, she didn't have the local network she'd had before to pass things along to. So the idea took shape: a place where a toy gets a second life with the right family, at the right moment, and where you can find the next right thing for your child without filling your home. Not more toys — the right toys, kept in motion.
